The Last Stand: March 26

(sign the petition here)

It all comes down to this.

We’ve fought since 2023 to block the California State Board of Pharmacy’s efforts to eliminate access to a critical detox treatment called glutathione.

At their Feb. 5 meeting, Board members were expected to pass regulations that would make it virtually impossible for us to regain access to this treatment – but they couldn’t because something incredible happened:

So many firefighters (and people who support them) flooded the public comments, that Board members began to openly question whether the regulations should be reworked, or outright eliminated.

The vote didn’t happen, which means we have one more chance to stop it.

This Board’s time is up.

Regulatory Boards have one calendar year to pass new regulations. California Board of Pharmacy members either vote to pass these regulations on March 26, or the package dies on the boardroom floor.

We only lose at these meetings when firefighters don’t show up.

When firefighters speak, we win.

That means we need an army of firefighters and their loved ones to show up on March 6 – on the phone or in Sacramento – and make a public comment.

Talking points, call-in details, and additional context below.

Pre-meeting update:

Talking Points:

The basics:

Tell them you’re a firefighter.

Tell them if you fought the Eaton or Palisades or other large campaign fires.

Tell them you should be able to nebulize glutathione at home – not just occasionally at a doctor’s office or clinic.

Tell them a doctor will write you a prescription for nebulized glutathione but no pharmacist in the county will make it because of the Board staff’s history of wrongfully punishing them for doing so – even though it’s legal and available in 49 other states.

Advanced:

Tell them you’re not fooled by their claims that they’ve created an “open pathway” for pharmacists to dispense glutathione.

Tell them their regulations contain requirements that go above and beyond FDA and USP requirements, no matter how many times Board Member Maria Serpa claims they don’t.

Tell them their regulations on compounding nebulized glutathione are redundant, unnecessary, and cost-prohibitive.

Call-in details:

Our goal is to overwhelm the meeting with public comments. Invite your family, your friends, and your fellow firefighters to join.

The March 26 board meeting starts at 9 am and our topic is agenda item II.

Public comment will likely begin in the morning and continue after lunch.

If we do it right, the public comment period will run for hours.

We know it’s a lot to ask to spend your precious time on this and will do everything we can to minimize your wait time.

If you fill out the form below (optional) with your availability, we will send you an alert when it’s time to call in so you’re not waiting any longer than necessary.
